TL;DR
Imagine researching 3,000 SEO keywords but having room to track only 100.
Most marketers would sort by search volume and take the top 100.
That’s often the wrong approach.
A keyword with 200 searches could generate more valuable customers than one with 5,000.
We use a combination of search intent, business value, existing rankings, and AI-powered clustering to make better decisions.
And we’ve developed a methodology that can run as a repeatable AI Skill instead of another manual spreadsheet exercise.
1. Search Volume Doesn't Equal Business Value
Consider a plumbing company in Austin.
Someone searching for “how to fix a faucet” might want a DIY tutorial.
Someone searching for “water heater leaking from bottom” might need a plumber immediately.
Yet an SEO tool could label the second search as informational.
Here’s another problem.
A high-volume faucet repair keyword may be worth less to the business than a lower-volume keyword for tankless water heater installation.
SEO tools know search data. They don’t know your business priorities.
That’s why picking keywords based on search volume and difficulty scores alone misses the bigger picture.
2. The Four Factors We Actually Use
We evaluate keywords based on:
- Search demand: How many people are searching?
- Search intent: Are they researching or looking to hire?
- Business value: Is this a service the company wants to sell?
- Ranking opportunity: Does the website already have visibility that can be improved?
Then we use AI to filter irrelevant keywords and group thousands of related searches into meaningful clusters.
For example, “emergency plumber Austin,” “24-hour plumber Austin,” and “plumber available tonight” belong to a similar customer-need category.
Instead of reviewing all 3,000 keywords individually, the team can focus on the highest-value clusters.
A human still approves the business priorities and final selections.
3. The Real Opportunity Is Automating the Process
Here’s where it gets interesting.
Why repeat this entire exercise manually for every client?
Using an SEO platform, AI clustering, and MCP integrations, we can turn the methodology into an AI Skill that:
- Expands and filters keyword lists.
- Groups keywords by meaning and customer intent.
- Scores clusters using business value and ranking opportunities.
- Selects the most relevant keywords and recommends target pages.
- Refreshes rankings and flags replacement candidates for review.
The system handles the repetitive analysis while the marketing team retains control over important decisions.
This is what practical AI implementation should look like.
Not another chatbot giving generic recommendations.
A repeatable process that saves manual work and improves decision-making.

Final Thought
SEO isn’t about tracking the most keywords.
It’s about identifying the searches that matter to your business and knowing where to invest your effort.
And AI shouldn’t replace that judgment.
It should eliminate the repetitive work that gets in the way of making better decisions.
The goal isn’t a better-looking ranking report. It’s better business results.
